It happens after so much suffering, a breath of love arrives.
“What is this warm feeling? It’s slowly climbing me from the bottom to the top and it makes me smile… how strange. Until recently, I was paralyzed with frost and no kind of grimace could appear on my face. It was as if I had lost all feelings of happiness. I got so used to this emotional state that I thought it was my normality. In this indefinite time, I’ve seen many hands reaching out to help me, but I’ve never been able to grab them. Then came the right one, or rather, at the right time, when I thought I was going to die, shortly thereafter, miserably in the street, my home for the past eighteen years. You saw me in a corner, almost unconscious. These freezing winter cold days, hunger, and profound loneliness, has brought me to exhaustion. And now you’re shaking my hand, I feel that there’s still a crumb of life inside me, ready to sprout after the thaw.”
It happens even the most desperate human case can have an unexpected ending.
Franco, the tiny and tired clochard, has finally found his home and I want to imagine him like this, like one of those little plants that manage to survive the frost, to then flourish again and again.
It happens that knowing how to accept help, in times of need, lightens us from a load of suffering we are experiencing.
And lighter, you know, it happens that we fly.
