Our taste changes as the years go by, in a certain way they follow our individual growth and it turns out we find ourselves as adults doing things we never thought of, like:
– eat lots of vegetables! About the 80% of children hate them, it’s some kind of punishment to eat them. I was one of those, my mother always told me that when she cooked the minestrone I invented I had a stomach ache and I just had to eat a sandwich with cheese. I was a smart child, you know…and today, I’m still always smart but I couldn’t live without eating vegetables.
– to walk! Even the most sedentary person wishes to walk as adult “love, I’m going to get cigarettes… I’II be back!” Ok, well, maybe this isn’t the right example to do but everyone takes a walk to the lake, on the beach, in the mountains or in the city, there’s a desire to go and find new destinations and live light-heartedness moments. When we were young walking was the voice of the verb IshouldbecrazyifIwillwalkmorethan5minutes. I remember I loved walking only because mum or dad took me in their arms after those famous 5 minutes.
– to dream! That’s the only change we would never do. As children dreams are driving force of our days… a single drawer isn’t enough to contain them. Dreams of love, hope, glory…. just think how wonderful is to remember it, then the more we grow the more these dreams are transformed into resilience. “If I manage to get to the end of the month, then I can peek into that drawer and try to extract a dream, even a small one.”
Yes, everything changes and that’s okay, the important thing is never lose the ourselves, we must always find a way to remember who we are because our strength is hidden in that moment of memory. Sometimes, even simple clues are enough helping us, for example it’s useful for me going to an ice cream shop. I just stop in front of the tastes showcase and I’d like to order them all, but when my turn comes and the ice cream maker asks me, “What flavor do you want?” I’ve always been replying the same for 40 years «hazelnut and pistachio please.»
