One of the things I love most in summer, is going to the outdoor cinema.
I believe it’s the show within the show!
An expanse of white plastic chairs in the middle of a green lawn and a screen so giant that, even the most shortsighted of spectators sitting in the last row, would be able to see.
Night falls, a light breeze rises from the lake and pretending to be a bearer of relief, it occasionally lingers between the folds of the ladies’ skirts and over the mustache of the elderly spectator who falls asleep even before the film has begun. Blame the wind, of course!
Suddenly the stars light up, the movie begins and everyone is ready to dream.
Dreams of summer, of lightness, of pistachio ice cream, of hope with the flavor of fresh and salt water, in short, a midsummer night’s dream.
But a night that doesn’t see Theseus and Hippolyta as protagonists, of the famous Shakespearean comedy, but an audience that pretends to have been awake all the time (apart from that elderly gentleman seen before) in order not to admit that they didn’t like the film and that, after all, the real show is nothing more than the product of their dreams.
While people are leaving, the screen is turning off… I sit still, for a moment, looking to the sky, who knows I couldn’t catch another spark before exiting from that enchanting scene.
