The seeds of happiness

A few days ago, while rummaging through an old box in the attic, I found a small box with a label that immediately caught my attention. In that label was written: this box contains the seeds of happiness.

I sat on the ground and opened it, I was too curious to see what was kept inside and with great amazement, I really found some seeds to plant and a letter.

“I’m happy that you are the one reading this letter, because it means that you are the right person to pass this magic formula to. I recommend to read the instructions carefully and cultivate these plants with love, inside your heart. That is the ideal place where make them grow and yo’ll see you’ll reap wonderful fruits!…”

I didn’t finish reading it, I quickly put it back in the box and returned back downstairs to finish other things, thinking it was a weird game left up there by someone of the family. In that attic there’s half a century of life after all and anyway I’m not known to have a green thumb, imagine if that letter could be intended for me.

But, despite this, I kept thinking about it and after I finished work, I went back to the attic and continued its reading:

“The first seed is the gratitude’s one:

– every day remember to fill yourself with gratitude for all the things that happen to you, good or bad, because it means that you’re living and this is a great privilege.

The second seed is the forgiveness’ one:

– every day remember to forgive yourself, to forgive your weaknesses, you don’t need to be too strict with yourself, the important thing is to understand your limits and accept them. Only then you’ll be able to overcome them later and always do your best.

The third seed is the love’s one:

– every day remember what you’re worth of, give yourself a smile in front of the mirror and a small gesture of love. Only by deeply loving yourself, you can love others too.

All the other seeds you see are the fertilizer: kindness, humility, generosity, courage….to name a few and they must never be lacking, because this is how your wonderful fruits will grow and then you can continue to pass on this magical formula.

Believe me, if treated with these ingredients even the driest heart would become fertile ground and in my opinion, it’s always worth trying to make known the real happiness.”

I closed the box with a smile on my face and with the awareness that the sowing had already begun!
