Emma was sitting in that corner of the house, with the knees bent towards her chest and her eyes filled with terror.
She knew that what had just happened to her was not acceptable nor legitimate, even though she felt confused, yet the man’s words had been clear and threatening:
“Don’t tell anyone what happened today in this room, they wouldn’t believe you… your word is worth nothing, just as you are, worth nothing. You’re just a provocative and irreverent girl.”
It had all happened so quickly and the scream of pain that she wanted to throw out was imploding to the point that she felt like throwing up.
Emma began to cry, she would rather die than feel dead inside and didn’t really know what to do.
He looked around, as if looking for something to get up… even just a reason, but the only thing she saw was her reflection on the lacquered mahogany cabinet.
The crumpled dirty clothes, the messy hair, the make-up fallen like a curtain over her tired face and everything she seemed to see except the image of a provocative girl. She saw the reflection of a scarecrow, struck over and over again by the words and violence of that ignoble human being who called himself a man and she thought:
“If I really was a scarecrow, I would make the wickedness and dirt of those who have targeted me slide to the ground because they consider me only an object but do not know that my task is much more important: every day I have to shine with the rising of the sun and face the invading flocks, it doesn’t matter if they try to hit me because, the next day I’ll be ready to shine again.”
Her heart was softened by a shy courage and she finally came out of that unhealthy place, wounded but not defeated, humiliated but not cancelled, she was worth much more than a thousand malicious flocks that at the first gust of wind, with the sound of straw, they would be flew away.
“Hello, my name is Emma and I was raped”
Don’t be afraid to fight for your dignity and your freedom, especially when it is harmed and don’t dress you up with the judgments of others, it’s better wear a nice skirt and a pair of red shoes.
All of you are worth it!
