Equal to zero

Everything we had fought for over the past twenty years has been canceled by the new government regime. No more education, no kind of autonomy (ban on playing sports, working, listening to music, dressing as we like), and the obligation to wear a full dress that covers everything.

Our fears materialized and we went back in time.

Such an event may be fortuitous for many, but for us, it isn’t, it is not. There is no worse thing than regression because that’s what it is.

After tasting a good piece of bread with the face exposed to the sun, we went back to eating the stones in the shade of the veil.

A deep sense of dejection removes even the last crumb left on the edges of the lips and makes us feel like zero.

We are Taliban women, indeed we are Taliban. Slaves of a man, prisoners within a creed, mothers of daughters to whom we will not be able to spare all these cruelties.

But there is one thing that makes us feel even sadder:

We’re alone!

Most people in the West have forgotten us. Few people talk about our condition, and far fewer are doing something concrete to give us hope. Almost a year has passed since the retreat of the American army…

So, you tell us: are we nothing?
