Il paese dei balocchi / The land of toys

L’altro giorno mi è capitato di rileggere un articolo sull’anatomia umana, in cui veniva descritto il continuo mutamento del naso e delle orecchie e la loro continua crescita, così l’associazione mentale con Pinocchio è stata immediata.

A questo burattino birichino il naso cresceva ogni volta che diceva una bugia, quindi non mi stupirebbe se anche l’allungamento dei nostri nasi, in particolare, fosse legato per qualche strana alchimia, a questo bizzarro fenomeno.

A differenza di Pinocchio però, al quale il naso si allungava subito dopo aver mentito, all’uomo accade che, solo in tarda età, si manifesti il risultato delle sue malefatte.

Infatti, non so se ci avete fatto caso, ci sono certi signori anziani che si ritrovano alla soglia degli ottant’anni con dei nasoni e delle orecchie giganti!

“Che siano tutti passati dal Paese dei Balocchi?”

Forse, Collodi non scrisse la sua opera in maniera del tutto casuale, non fu solo il frutto della sua fantasia, ma fu geniale l’averci narrato la verità attraverso la sua favola.

Del resto, chi non ha mentito almeno una volta? Chi non ha mai sognato di non aver pensieri e sollazzare tutto il giorno?

Io, ad esempio, alzo la mano: l’ho fatto!

E non vi nego di essere stata sia la Fatina che Mangiafuoco nella mia vita, oppure di avere incontrato il Gatto e la Volpe e numerosi grilli parlanti lungo il cammino, addirittura ho conosciuto l’Uomo di Burro il quale, pur di sbarazzarsi di me, mi avrebbe venduta al primo miglior offerente.

Però, se penso che per questo sarò condannata a trasformarmi in una vecchia mula, vorrei almeno tentare di porre rimedio e l’unico modo sarebbe riscrivere una nuova versione della favola di Pinocchio.

Non me ne voglia, Signor Collodi, ma è ora di svelare al mondo il segreto di questa alchimia: chissà che qualcuno non si regoli di conseguenza, prima che sia troppo tardi!

Mi creda: ci sono già troppi burattini e ciuchini quaggiù!

Some days ago, I’ve been reading again an article on human anatomy, which described the continuous change of the nose and ears and their continuous growth, so it was immediate the mental association with Pinocchio.

This fluffy puppet’s nose grew every time he told a lie, so it wouldn’t surprise me if the lengthening of our noses, in particular, was also linked to this bizarre phenomenon by some strange alchemy.

Unlike Pinocchio, however, whose nose lengthened immediately after having lied, it happens to man that only in old age does the result of his misdeeds manifest.

In fact I don’t know if you have noticed, but there are some elderly gentlemen who find themselves on the threshold of eighty years with giant noses and ears.

“Have they all been through the Land of Toys?”

Perhaps Mr. Collodi didn’t write his work in a completely casual way, it wasn’t only the fruit of his imagination, but he was brilliant to have told us the truth through that fable.

After all, who hasn’t lied at least once in his life? Who hasn’t dreamed of having no thoughts and amusing all day?

For example, I raise my hand: I did it!

And I don’t deny that I was both the Fairy that Fire-eater in my life, or that I met the Cat and the Fox and numerous talking crickets along the way, I even met the Butter Man who, in order to get rid of me, would have me sold to the first highest bidder.

But if I remind that for this reason, I will be condemned to transform myself into an old mule, I would at least try to remedy it and the only way would be to rewrite a new version of the Pinocchio’s tale.

I do not want it, Mr. Collodi, but it’s time to reveal the secret of this alchemy to the world, who knows if someone doesn’t adjust accordingly, before it is too late.

Believe me: there are already too many puppets and donkeys down here!
