La signora e gli elefanti / The lady and the elephants

Juanita ha un missione speciale!

Tutti gli anni compie un lungo viaggio per andare a trovare i suoi amici, che vivono in un santuario nel nord della Thailandia.

C’è una connessione cosmica fra lei e gli elefanti asiatici. Qualcosa di indescrivibile con le parole, perché l’amore vero si può solo sentire, e Juanita li ama a tal punto da azzerare in loro ogni timore di essere in pericolo.

Li accarezza, gioca con loro nell’acqua, ma soprattutto li osserva e vede degli animali straordinari, sacri per alcuni gruppi di credenti, dall’aspetto imponente ed una vivida intelligenza.

“Amici miei siete così grandi da far paura… se solo gli esseri umani smettessero di fermarsi all’apparenza e si mettessero all’ascolto. Se solo rispettassero la natura di ogni essere vivente… senza dover sempre cercare una fonte di guadagno materiale… allora forse, potrebbero finalmente iniziare a vedere chi hanno di fronte. Per esempio in questo momento io vedo sei mila chili d’amore per ciascuno di voi.”

Juanita pronuncia queste parole con tono di sconforto, consapevole del fatto che la sua specie, con molte probabilità, non arriverà mai a questo tipo di evoluzione. Poi volge lo sguardo verso gli altri volontari e si rallegra del fatto che, per fortuna, ci siano ancora persone accanto a lei, che hanno scelto di distinguersi.

Si avvicina a Gelsomino, il piccolo elefante della famiglia e gli porge una mano. Gelsomino allunga la proboscide e gliela stringe.

“Allora siamo d’accordo, amici per sempre.”

Juanita has a special mission!

Every year she makes a long journey to visit her friends, who live in a sanctuary in northern Thailand.

There’s like a cosmic connection between her and the Asian elephants. Something indescribable with words, because true love can only be felt, and Juanita loves them so much that they eliminate any fear of being in danger.

She caresses them, plays with them in the water, but above all observes them and sees extraordinary animals, sacred to some groups of believers, with an imposing appearance and vivid intelligence.

“My friends, you are so big as to be frightening… if only human beings stopped stopping at appearances and listened to them. If only they respected the nature of every living thing… without always having to look for a source of material gain… then maybe, they could finally start to see who they are facing. For example, at this moment I see six thousand kilos of love for each of you.”

Juanita utters these words with a tone of despondency, aware of the fact that his species, in all probability, will never reach this type of evolution. Then she turns her gaze to the other volunteers and rejoices that, fortunately, there are still people next to her, who have chosen to stand out from her.

She approaches Jasmine, the small elephant of the family, and holds out a hand to him. Jasmine stretches out its trunk and squeezes it.

“Then we have a deal, we’re friends forever.”
