Tu sei speciale! / You’re so special!

“Tu sei speciale” mi diceva mia nonna da bambina.

“Hai i capelli color del rame con una punta d’oro. Sei destinata a brillare! E poi con questa testolina a forma di cuore, non potrai che amare.”

“Tu sei speciale” mi diceva mio padre.

“Hai un modo profondo di osservare le cose, nei tuoi occhi ci cela il mondo.”

“Tu sei speciale” me lo dicono Anna, Lucia, Laura, Raffaella, Nicoletta.

“La tua voce è così soave, ci fa sognare…”

Ho passato tanto tempo a domandarmi cosa poter fare di speciale per non deludere le aspettative di tutte queste persone. Così ho iniziato a sognare alla grande e davanti ad ogni cosa che stavo per progettare, mettevo sempre un più.

“Sarò la ballerina più famosa del mondo! Compierò un viaggio a piedi più lungo di chiunque altro! Realizzerò il progetto di casa più ambizioso…”

Ma sapete, non ci sono riuscita. Non ho fatto tutte queste cose straordinarie nella mia vita, solo cose di straordinaria normalità eppure per queste persone sono sempre speciale.

Dunque ho capito, grazie a costoro, che si è speciali semplicemente per quello che siamo, senza il bisogno di compiere azioni strabilianti. Non è necessario dimostrare agli altri quanto valiamo, perché lo sanno.

Ora la cosa più importante è un’altra: noi invece, lo sappiamo?

“You have copper-colored hair with a hint of gold. You are fated to shine! And then with this little head in the shape of a heart, you can only love.”

“You’re so special” my father told me.

“You have a profound way of looking at things, the world hides in your eyes.”

“You are so special” Anna, Lucia, Laura, Raffaella, Nicoletta tell me.

“Your voice is so sweet, it makes us dream…”

I’ve spent a lot of time wondering what special thing to do in order to not disappoint the expectations of all these people. So I started dreaming big and in front of everything I was going to design, I always put there a plus.

“I’ll be the most famous dancer in the world! I’ll take the longer journey on foot than anyone else! I will carry out the most ambitious home project…”

But you know, I couldn’t. I’ve not done all these extraordinary things in my life, only things of extraordinary normality and yet to these people I’m still special.

So I understood, thanks to them, that we are special simply for who we are, without the need to perform amazing actions. It’s not necessary to prove to others what we are worth, because they already know it.

Now the most important thing is another: do we really know that?
