The voice of the sea

Leggi in italiano

Chiara and Luisa loved walking on the beach looking for large shells, in the shape of a snail, because they seemed to be magical shells:

– Placing them on your ear, you could hear the song of the sea.

It was incredible, a kind of catching beached songs or better still gramophone to wave …in short, lullabies that echoed his quiet on calm days or his anger during the storm.

The two girls decided they would collect plenty of them, and then sell them to old retired sailors, swimmers or anyone who believed in the power of the sea.

They set up a small stall, right next to the beach and started their adventure, hoping to earn some money. They also made a sign that read “We sell songs stolen from the sea”.

Intrigued passersby stopped and looked at the shells but no one bought them because they thought it was a rip off … after all they were just shells , let alone if they could have other functions and why pay for them, when a few steps, they could have picked them up.

But these people didn’t know that those snail-shaped shells revealed their magic only to dreamers, it wasn’t enough to find them and even the two girls didn’t immediately understand it, until one day an old gentleman showed up, with a stick and a hat, in front of their exhibition.

The old gentleman, very politely asked to be able to take a snail in his hand, placed it on one ear, then on the other and tears began to wet his face.

“Nanana …. nanana ….. uuuuuuuu … uuuuuu …” the old man began to sing a melody.

“Sir, are you all right?” Chiara and Luisa asked him.

«Yes, yes, all right… I’m moved because I didn’t think I’d hear these enchanting sounds anymore, I’ve been hoping to meet other dreamers for years and I almost lost hope. You know the sea gave me this gift many years ago, but then when life took my wife away, I stopped believing in magic and the spell vanished. Forgive me, I’m just an old man full of memories, I’ll buy one, how much do I owe you? »

«We give it to you, Lord! You can take whatever he wants. “

The two girls were assailed by so much tenderness and understanding the real value of the shells, they decided it would be more important to receive emotions in return, rather than money and changed the writing on the sign of the stall.

“To those who still believe in dreams, we give shells that taste like the sea and love!”

Io dico sempre cara Flavia, che le nostre tasche dovrebbero essere piene di conchiglie e di lucciole! Le prime per tracciare il cammino e le seconde per illuminarlo. Così sarà più facile inseguire i sogni 💝
