«Ma sono arrivato ultimo Coach. Che delusione, ho fallito.»

«Fallito? Oggi ho assistito a un’ottima performance, dovresti essere soddisfatto a prescindere dal risultato. Io lo sono.»

«Tu credi? Lo sai… mi sono allenato tanto, tutti i sacrifici fatti, le rinunce… perché il mio sogno era proprio quello di partecipare a questa gara. Classificarmi ultimo è stato come, essere ad un passo dalla felicità ma senza riuscire ad afferrarla.»

«Si gareggia per vincere, hai ragione. Inutile raccontarci il contrario… ma vincere non significa solo aggiudicarsi una medaglia o il podio, Matteo. Vinciamo nel momento esatto in cui ci proviamo!»

«Spiegati meglio Coach…»

«Ogni volta che con coraggio affrontiamo delle difficoltà, invece di restare immobili o facendo finta che non esistano… abbiamo vinto. Fallisce chi non ci prova! Per un attimo non pensare al risultato e concentrati sul percorso che hai fatto. L’avresti mai detto di riuscire a compiere i 100 metri con una protesi, alle Paralimpiadi?»

«No Coach, quando cinque anni fa ho perso una gamba, ho pensato che la mia vita fosse finita.»

«Ok, invece sei qui oggi! E dal momento in cui hai scelto di non arrenderti, perché avresti potuto farlo ed hai accettato la tua nuova condizione, trasformandola in un’opportunità, hai vinto! Sei già salito al primo posto, sul podio della tua vita.»

«Grazie Coach, avevo perso di vista la parte migliore della competizione. Direi che adesso dovremmo darcela a gambe e andare a festeggiare.»

«Sì, ma paghi tu da bere Campione»

“Se si può vincere una battaglia anche senza un arto, a chi manca solo il coraggio… cosa aspetta a provarci?”
